Secondary education

Middle school and high school years

Autonomy, openness, and a multidisciplinary approach

Secondary education builds on the fundamentals acquired in elementary school, with the aim of broadening and deepening student knowledge. At this stage, students attend classes with teachers who specialize in specific disciplines.

Middle school

A wide range of disciplines

Middle school — or le collège in French — marks the beginning of secondary education, and it is split into four years. It places a particular focus on languages, taught by native speakers.

Strengthening core skills

Middle school is designed to facilitate multidisciplinary projects, where students discover new subjects and a new structure, thus broadening their knowledge. Each student has the opportunity to master 4 languages from the very first years.

9th Grade

In middle school, students are introduced to new teachers, each of whom specializes in a particular subject. As a result, your child acquires in-depth knowledge of French, mathematics, sciences, technology, history, geography, sports, arts, and languages.

In addition to the intensive study of English and Croatian, German is also introduced in 6th Grade for all students. We collaborate closely with the German International School of Zagreb as part of the Eurocampus, which means our students have the unique opportunity to share the same language and sports classes and teachers several times a week.

At EFIZ, middle school students have already met their future teachers in elementary school. And no student is anonymous at EFIZ: our teachers know each one of them, which allows them to adjust their teaching methods to the needs of each individual student. At the end of middle school, students receive the National Diploma, their first official diploma..

Children of Croatian descent are offered additional courses in the Croatian language, geography, and history. These are taught in Croatian and in accordance with the official curriculum approved by the Croatian Ministry of Education.

In case a student wishes to transfer to the Croatian education system at some point in the future, our unique program allows them to do so with confidence and ease.

This program is organized by the Eurocampus for Croatian students from French and German schools.

High school

The final cycle of secondary education

These three final years of secondary education are oriented towards the preparation for the Baccalaureate. We offer personalized support for each student in partnership with CNED.

Learning tracks tailored to our students' ambitions

Starting from the 11th grade, students choose between two distinct learning tracks: General (split into literary, scientific, and economic and social series) and Technological (Management Science and Technology).

The final year of secondary education

Our high school students have the opportunity to be taught directly by the National Center for Distance Education, accompanied by regular in-person supervision by our very own teachers, across all subjects.

High school students at FISZ are registered with the National Center for Distance Education (CNED), which offers online courses directly. However, students are not left to their own devices. In fact, they come to school every day according to a rigorous timetable, and our teachers give them the support they need to broaden and deepen their knowledge. Every student has the opportunity to progress.

With a 7:1 student-teacher ratio, we are able to offer our students highly personalized support while giving them the opportunity to interact easily with their peers from the German International School of Zagreb as part of the Eurocampus. At the end of this final cycle, students pass the National Baccalaureat, which allows them to move on to tertiary education — whether it’s a French, Croatian, or anglophone university.
