Multilingualism

The core of our educational project

Expertise in language instruction

The excellence of our offering of foreign languages, the quality of our instructional content, our course methodology, and our highly qualified staff set us apart.

1-Multilingu-langue-unissant.png

French is not the mother tongue of all our students, but it becomes a language that brings us together.

2-Multilingu-tous.png

We welcome children of all nationalities, French-speaking or not, from kindergarten to 12th grade.

3-Multilingu-monde-de-demain.png

We help each student master languages in order to think, communicate, and act in tomorrow's world.

Children thrive when given the opportunity to discover new languages and cultures.

At FISZ, languages are at the heart of our pedagogical project. We use our experience to help students gain the confidence they will need after graduation, to make use of all the possibilities the world offers.

Non-French speaking students are given special attention so they, too, can reach full fluency over time. All students also learn English, German, and Croatian (as a mother tongue or foreign language).

French

French is the main language of instruction and is taught in all classes.

6-Multilingu-DE.png

German

German is taught as a second foreign language from the age of 11.

5-Multilingu-EN.png

English

English is compulsory as a first foreign language from the age of 6.

7-Multilingu-HR.png

Croatian

Croatian is compulsory for all and is taught either as a foreign language or as a mother tongue.

British International Section

A bilingual and bicultural program

In 6th Grade, all students join the British International Section, where they gain an in-depth understanding of the English language and culture.

Language and Literature

More than a foreign language class, we teach English literature the same way as French literature.

History and Geography

The French program is adapted to accommodate British history and geography.

Supplementary hours

On top of 2 extra hours of language and literature, half of all History/Geography/Moral and Civic Education courses are also taught in English.

After 9th Grade, students sit an exam to obtain the "international option" of the diplôme national du brevet (DNBI), graduating Middle School. At the end of 12th Grade, students take the international option of the French baccalaureate (OIB) — not a separate diploma but rather a specialization within the framework of the bacc.

  • The DNBI is made of core DNB examinations with 2 additional, specific oral and written examinations in languages, literature, history, and geography. These additional exams are conducted in the language of the section (i.e., English).

  • The OIB is an international “specialization” as part of the general French diploma. The “international option” has the same status and validity as all the mainstream baccalaureate options (Bac général). The “option” subjects are taught and examined in the language of the section, to a standard comparable to that of A levels in the United Kingdom.
